woman, n. A living thing that can have children and do the laundry

International Women's Day. What a wonderful occassion to celebrate female emancipation, the fight against discrimination, the fight for equal opportunities, equal wages. Dozens, hundreds of years of fighting through peaceful process, rebellion, through government channels and on the streets. There is so much that one could talk about on this day... or not.

The Slovenian national TV station dedicated during the evening news about 10 minutes to the day. A part of it were answers of women, answers to the question why it is good to be a woman, or better to be a woman. And what do we get - out of 6 women, one has a job. One, the longest answer shown, was talking about how wonderful it is that you can have babies and then stay at home, look after your children, shop, clean the house, do the laundry. One said that children are the only important things in a woman's life.

Are you kidding me? Kids? The laundry? That's the point of being a woman? After so many years? The German language has a good word for something like that: hirnamputiert.
The person making this was either a genious or someone with an IQ way below zero. Depends on what the report-making ignoramus wanted to make us believe.

Don't get me wrong. If some women want that, kids, the laundry, let them have it. If they believe that's it for them, let them have it. But don't give me 6 answers telling me that being a woman is all about this 18 and 19th century values. Show me a woman that says: "I went for a career and I am happy with it." Show me a woman saying "I got divorced from that bastard called my husband who saw me as his personal cleaning lady." Show me a woman that says: "I don't have kids and guess what, I don't want them." And then, when you're willing to show me that kind of women as well, I might be willing to tolerate the whole laundry issue.

I can't believe I am paying my taxes for this!
